Our Story - Growing The Secret Garden
Tamsin Wilson, chief grower and picker, is the special ingredient behind The Secret Garden. A self-confessed 'foodie', her passion for good, honest food, love of nature and fascination for growing the unusual are what The Secret Garden is all about.
It's no surprise that Tamsin finds herself in the business of growing - it was inevitable.....
Early childhood years living in Cyprus planted the seed of interest in fine food and interesting tastes. Comforting memories of sheftalia gently sizzling on a charcoal barbecue, delicious tashe sauce, home-made taramasalata, and heavenly stuffed vine leaves ignited her obsession with fresh flavours.
Stints working in North-east Thailand and remote Northern Laos awakened her taste buds to the delights of Asian fare, characterised by papaya salad, dried grilled squid and fish larp with ants (the worst biting kind).
Now based in Patumahoe, in rural Southern Auckland, with husband, Pete, and two children, Tamsin is realising her dream. Their four-acre lifestyle block, complete with dairy goats, ducks, chickens, pigs and sheep, is also home to The Secret Garden. It's here that Tamsin and her dedicated team lovingly grow and personally hand-pick the finest fresh produce and picture-perfect edible flowers for your enjoyment.
"As the Secret Garden's chief grower and picker, I'm passionate about bringing you unique, inspiring products, grown with love and respect for the environment. I encourage you to experiment, eat, enjoy and share our secret!"
